A dreidel (Yiddish: דריידל dreydl) is a kind of square toll, which is played during the Jewish festival Hannukkah. Each side has a letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which together form an acronym which means "a great miracle happened there." These letters also form a mnemonic for the rules of a gambling game played with a dreidel. The title of the composition Dreydl is a reference to the Jewish game and is based on known and lesser-known Jewish songs. The main players in the game are the oboe and the bassoon, an unusual combination in folk music. The composer was inspired by the multifaceted nature of the bassoon. Firstly with the technique (virtuosity), but also when it comes to sound. This resulted in a dialogue between soloist and the orchestra.

Dirk puts the spotlight on his fellow publisher Wil Senden. With some imagination he depicts three stages of his life in a musical setting: the time of growing up in the turbulent period immediately after the war, a romantic love affair, resulting in a lasting relationship.

Louis Balleron (1869 - 1916) was flutist at the 'Opera Comique' in Paris. The work describes a noisy bird and is a challenge for the advanced piccolo player.

The Master of Invention is a tribute to St. Caecilia Blerick and its conductor Andreas van Zoelen. Paul was inspired by a theme of a 'pop' musician, living in the second half of the 20-eth century. A large saxophone ensemble, consisting of 2 soprano, 2 alto, 1 tenor, 1 baritone and 1 bass saxophone, are in a constant exchange with the band. Der Teufel und seine Helfer is a spooky description of the awakening of the soloists by the band, and their machinations as helpers of the devil without a will of their own. The melody of the well-known Ave Maria originated in 1852. For this melody, Gounod was inspired by the Praeludium (in D Major) of the first part of 'Das wohltemperierte Klavier'. Only in 1859 he added the words of a Maria poem to this melody, after which this hymn became known all over the world. Jos Dobbelstein arranged this wonderful melody for soprano and concert band (without barirtone/euphonium part) including the harp and organ.
